Exploring Therapeutic Alternatives to ABA
Families and care supporters may encounter applied behavior analysis (ABA) as a commonly recommended therapy for autistic children and adults, but it is not the only option available.
In WA INCLUDE’s “Community Session: Alternatives to ABA,” a multidisciplinary panel explores a range of therapeutic approaches and how they can support each person’s individual needs and goals. The conversation includes perspectives from play and AutPlay therapy, music therapy, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, behavior analysis, and autistic and family advocacy.
Panelists discuss the benefits of different approaches, considerations for determining when an ABA referral may be appropriate, and the value of bringing together multiple disciplines to provide individualized support.
