Celebrate Disability Pride Month – July 2025

Photo: Blocks arranged to show what is covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act.This July marks 35 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990. The ADA was the first comprehensive civil rights legislation to prohibit discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, education, transportation, and public and private spaces. Since 2015, Disability Pride Month has commemorated this milestone and honored the strength, diversity, and leadership of the disability community.

The City of Seattle remains committed to advancing accessibility through efforts like installing curb ramps and accessible restrooms, and by expanding inclusive programs and services.

Seattle’s Aging and Disability Services division provides essential support for older adults and people with disabilities. Resources include:

  • Community Living Connections, a free, confidential information and referral service
  • The FLASH Card, which helps people with memory loss communicate their needs
  • The Seattle-King County Advisory Council on Aging & Disability Services, a volunteer body guiding policy and advocacy
