UW Study Examines Feeding Care for Autistic Children
Britt St. John, PhD, MPH, OTR/L, assistant professor in the University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, has received $270,000 through the ACT4Rehab K12 program for research focused on improving access to feeding care for autistic children.
Over two years, St. John and her research team will work with families, clinicians, and community partners to examine how families find feeding-related services across Washington state. The project will identify gaps in the current system and inform strategies for making support more accessible.
The study builds on St. John’s research involving feeding, autism, family routines, and inclusive research practices. She also leads First Bite, a pilot project developed in partnership with the UW Autism Center that explores virtual education and consultation for caregivers of children awaiting feeding intervention.
