UW Autism Center Summer Social Groups 2026
The University of Washington Autism Center (UWAC) is offering summer social groups for children ages 2 through 5th grade. These groups focus on building social communication, problem solving, and safety skills through structured, play-based learning, with goals tailored to each child.
Program Details
- Dates: June 30 to August 21, 2026
- Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Time: Two 90-minute sessions per week (group times vary by age)
- Location: UWAC Seattle Clinic
Groups are Organized by Age:
- Preschool: ages 2 to 5
- Early elementary: kindergarten through 2nd grade
- Upper elementary: 3rd through 5th grade
What Children Will Work On
Across all groups, there is a consistent focus on self-advocacy, safety skills, and problem solving. Additional goals vary by age and developmental level:
- Preschool: circle time participation, transitioning with a group, parallel and cooperative play, following safety directions
- Early elementary: taking turns, sharing interests, interactive play, problem solving
- Upper elementary: personal boundaries, conversational turn-taking, perspective taking, collaborative problem solving
Skills are supported through naturalistic play and a behavior skills training approach that includes instruction, modeling, rehearsal, and feedback. Group goals are individualized for each child.
Caregiver Connection
Caregivers will have opportunities to connect with one another during sessions and participate in bi-monthly social coaching opportunities.
