Assistive Technology Awareness Day 2026
April 22 is Assistive Technology (AT) Awareness Day. Assistive technology plays an important role in supporting independence for people with disabilities. AT includes any device, equipment, or system used to enhance functional abilities and support participation in daily life.

Across all 56 U.S. states and territories, Assistive Technology programs help people of all ages explore and access tools that support learning, working, and living more independently. These programs are consumer-driven and designed to expand access to life-changing technology.
In Washington State, the Washington Assistive Technology Act Program (WATAP) connects individuals, families, and professionals with tools and resources to support everyday life. WATAP offers device demonstrations, short-term loans, training, and technical assistance to help people make informed decisions about assistive technology and access the equipment they need.
WATAP is part of the University of Washington’s Institute on Human Development and Disability and supports people across the lifespan, along with their families, caregivers, educators, and service providers.
