Remembering Dr. Kurt Johnson
We are deeply saddened to share that Dr. Kurt L. Johnson, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, passed away on September 28, 2025.
Over his 35-year career at UW, Dr. Johnson made lasting contributions to rehabilitation science, disability studies, and inclusive research. He was the founding director of the Center for Technology and Disability Studies, co-founded the UW Disability Studies Program, and led initiatives that expanded access, equity, and opportunity for people with disabilities.
His impact as a teacher, mentor, researcher, and advocate will continue to shape the field and the many lives he touched.
