Bridging Perspectives in Autism Advocacy

Bridging Perspectives in Autism AdvocacyThe WA INCLUDE Collaborative invites attendees to join an important discussion among autistic and parent advocates on Wednesday, October 29, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm PST.

ECHO Autism will host a special panel exploring the evolution of language about autism and how these shifts have shaped the neurodiversity movement. Parent and autistic panelists will share their experiences navigating diagnosis, care, and community conversations, reflecting on both past harms and new opportunities for understanding.

As the neurodiversity movement has grown, shifts in how disability is discussed have sparked both progress and tension among stakeholders. This conversation will lean into those complexities, acknowledging past harms, addressing current challenges, and working together to ensure future approaches are inclusive, respectful, and affirming for all involved.

These discussions can bring strong emotions, and the session will create a space where all voices are heard. ECHO Autism aims to help build a community that learns from the past and works toward reducing harm for autistic people and their caregivers.

The WA INCLUDE Collaborative’s mission is to drive transformative change for inclusion and health equity by fostering dialogue that strengthens resilience and deepens collaboration across roles.
