On December 16, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Autism CARES Act of 2024 (H.R. 7213) by a vote of 402 to 13. This bipartisan bill ensures continued monitoring, training, and research programs within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support children and adults with autism, people with other neurodevelopmental disabilities, and their families.
The Autism CARES Act will:
- Expand research and public awareness.
- Strengthen surveillance and monitoring efforts.
- Support interdisciplinary health professional training programs, including Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) programs.
The bill was sponsored by Senators Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) and Susan Collins (R-ME) in the Senate, and Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX) in the House. It now awaits the President’s signature to become law.
