WA INCLUDE Community Session: IDD and Digital Safety

Join WA INCLUDE for the March Community Session, IDD and Digital Safety: Building Autonomy in Online Spaces, featuring Anthony R. Osuna, PhD and Peter Jung, M.Ed.. Together, they will explore how to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in navigating digital spaces safely while strengthening autonomy, confidence, and informed decision making online.

As technology becomes more integrated into daily life, digital safety is essential. This session will offer practical insights, thoughtful discussion, and real-world strategies you can apply immediately in your work.

Whether you support, serve, or advocate alongside individuals with IDD, this conversation will equip you with tools to foster both protection and empowerment in online environments.

Anthony R. Osuna, PhD (he/him), will present on:

  • The development of the SELFI program, a digital literacy and online safety program for autistic adults and adults with IDD
  • How SELFI is being redesigned to better meet the needs of adults with IDD in community settings
  • Future directions for SELFI and digital health interventions

Peter Jung, M.Ed., will present on:

  • Identifying specific risks and benefits of screen time for autistic individuals
  • Building agency around screen time
  • Teaching safety tools in ways that support personal autonomy

Anthony R. Osuna, PhD (he/him) is a licensed clinical psychologist and Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. His work focuses on mental health equity, digital safety, and community engaged intervention development for autistic adults and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He developed the SELFI program and is leading its redesign to better support people with diverse cognitive and learning styles. He also provides clinical care at Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic.

Peter Jung, M.Ed. is an autistic self advocate with 18 years of experience working with autistic youth and teens. He has written and spoken nationally about redesigning social skills programming to be more neurodiversity affirming and community centered while building digital literacy and advocacy skills. He serves as Advocacy and Outreach Specialist in the Ryther Aspiring Youth Program.
