Photo: Blind person working on computer with braille display and screen.Join us on Wednesday, May 15, as the University of Washington celebrates Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)—a full day dedicated to advancing digital accessibility and inclusive design across our community. Each year, the UW commemorates GAAD by offering a day of lectures, workshops, and other activities related to digital accessibility. In 2025, we will be celebrating with a hybrid event, in person and on Zoom. This year’s event is co-organized by UW-IT Accessible Technology Services, CREATE, and UW Center for Learning, Computing, and Imagination.

Date: May 15, 2025
Time: 9:00am – 6:00pm
Location: HUB 250 and virtual via Zoom (plus evening activity in Gates CSE2)

Here’s what’s happening throughout the day:

  • Morning: Start your day with practical workshops on fixing common accessibility issues
  • Midday: Hear insights from UW leadership and accessibility experts
  • Afternoon: Dive deeper with hands-on workshops for UW instructors and website owners—including sessions on course accessibility and DubBot, UW’s enterprise web accessibility tool
  • Evening: Be inspired by Josh Miele, technologist and author of Connecting Dots, about his journey navigating as a blind person in a sighted world.

UW GAAD 2025 sessions are free and open to the UW community (registration required). To register and view the full schedule, please visit the UW GAAD 2025 webpage.
