In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, Dr. Tanya St. John from the University of Washington Autism Center spoke with KING 5 News about the early signs of autism and the importance of early identification.

Dr. St. John highlighted how early support can improve long-term outcomes for children and their families. Her research continues to inform best practices in early intervention and support across clinical and educational settings.

Her current project, A Longitudinal Study of Executive Function and Brain Development in Autism, is supported by an IHDD Pilot Grant, with funding provided by foundry10. This study uses data from the Infant Brain Imaging Study (IBIS) to examine the development of executive functioning from toddlerhood through school-age and includes collaboration with IHDD’s Brain Imaging Core.
