Request for Applications: 2025 The Arc of Washington Trust Fund Research Grant

The Arc of Washington Trust Fund is pleased to announce the call for grant proposals for the 2025 funding period. Since 1950, the Trust Fund has supported research aimed at benefiting the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We continue to fund research by investigators in the state of Washington that aligns with our mission:

“To support research identifying issues affecting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, to support programs enriching their lives, and to support the education and training of community members working with the I/DD population.”

Grant Details:

  • Funding Amount: Up to $25,000 for a one-year period.
  • Indirect Costs: Capped at 10% of the total budget.
  • Preference: Given to submissions with access to matching funds and those compatible with current public health guidelines.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Research Focus: Projects must directly benefit individuals with I/DD or lead to benefits through programmatic or legislative changes.
  • Investigator Status: Proposals from early-career investigators (within the first 10 years of their career) are preferred, but researchers at all career stages are welcome to apply.
  • Funding Potential: Projects with a high likelihood of attracting concurrent or follow-on funding from federal, state, or other sources are favored.

Application Process:

  1. Letter of Intent (LOI): Identify the investigator(s), involved institutions, and provide a one-page summary of the intended research and its potential impact. The LOI is required by March 31, 2025, and should be emailed to info@arctrustfund.org.
  2. Full Proposal: Investigators invited to submit a full proposal will be notified by May 1, 2025. Full proposals, limited to six pages—including Background, Specific Aims, Research Plan (with preliminary data and timeline), and a Statement of Anticipated Impact—are due by July 31, 2025. Ancillary materials such as references, letters of support, biosketches, line-item budget, and budget justification are required but do not count towards the page limit.

This award honors the legacy of Larry Jones, J.D., Ph.D., who dedicated his life to advocating for the I/DD community. Larry served for decades on the boards of The Arc of Washington State and The Arc of Washington State Trust Fund. His professional work as an attorney for families of those with intellectual disabilities was acknowledged nationally. He authored the 2010 book “Doing Disability Justice,” detailing the journey toward equity and justice for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Larry Jones passed away in 2021 after a lifetime of service to the I/DD community.
