Unlocking Potential: UW LEND’s Commitment to Inclusive Leadership and Advocacy
The University of Washington’s Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (UW LEND) program is dedicated to building a more inclusive future for people with developmental disabilities. Through hands-on experience, advocacy, and research, UW LEND prepares the next generation of leaders to promote meaningful change in their communities.

As a Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) leadership training, UW LEND emphasizes person- and family-centered care, welcoming 35-40 trainees each year from diverse backgrounds—including professionals from audiology, nursing, psychology, public health, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, and medicine. A unique aspect of the program is the inclusion of individuals with lived experience who represent family caregivers and self-advocates, bringing invaluable perspectives to the training.

With in-house training clinics and interactive seminars, trainees gain real-world experience working closely with providers, families, and community leaders. This video captures the heart of UW LEND’s mission, showing how collaboration and shared learning create a foundation for positive impact.
