After 33 years of dedicated service, Dr. Ilene Schwartz has retired from her role as Director of the Haring Center. Her tenure has been defined by her commitment to inclusive education, leading numerous initiatives that have shaped the center’s programs and positively impacted the lives of many in the community.

The Haring Center, known for its pioneering work in inclusive education, has recently undergone a major renovation, enhancing its facilities to better support children, families, and educators. The updated building, which opened its doors in January 2024, reflects the center’s ongoing dedication to creating an environment of collaboration, belonging, and excellence.

As Dr. Schwartz steps down, Dr. Kathleen Artman Meeker, who has been with the Haring Center since 2017 as the Director of Research, will take on the role of Director. Dr. Artman Meeker has been instrumental in advancing the center’s research and professional development initiatives, expanding its reach and effectiveness. Her leadership will continue to focus on enhancing the center’s impact through innovative programs and strengthened community partnerships.

The Haring Center’s programs, including the Experimental Education Unit (EEU), remain at the forefront of inclusive education, providing comprehensive services for children and families and serving as a model for inclusive practices nationwide. The center’s research and professional development efforts continue to influence educators and communities across the state and beyond.
