At the Westchester Institute for Human Development (WIHD), Dan and Samuel Habib secured a News & Documentary Emmy Award for their impactful short film, My Disability Roadmap. Acknowledged at the 2023 ceremony in New York City’s Palladium Times Square Theater, the film, an op-docs creation for The New York Times, aimed to challenge stereotypes and elevate respect for people with disabilities. During his acceptance speech, Samuel expressed the importance of enabling individuals with disabilities to access crucial healthcare, inclusive education, assistive technology, friendships, and independent living.
Dedicated to the memory of disability advocate Judy Heumann, the film has been integral in Dan and Samuel’s advocacy for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities. They’ve presented My Disability Roadmap at numerous professional development sessions and educational forums both domestically and internationally.
