June 24, 2023 – The University of Washington recently hosted the 1st annual UW Institute on Human Development and Disability (IHDD) Research Day, a significant milestone in the field of human development and disability research. The event celebrated the institute’s new designation, paid tribute to Dr. Michael Guralnick’s contributions, and welcomed the new leadership of IHDD Director Dr. Sunny Juul and UCEDD Director Dr. Mark Harniss. With over 80 attendees, the event showcased IHDD’s activities, including research and community outreach projects.

Dr. Michael Guralnick, a distinguished researcher and advocate, was honored for his 37 years of dedicated work in enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities and promoting inclusive practices. The IHDD Research Day expressed gratitude for his invaluable contributions and efforts.

Dr. Sunny Juul, as the new IHDD Director and IDDRC Director, and Dr. Mark Harniss, as the UCEDD Director, were introduced as leaders who will shape the institute’s future. Their expertise and commitment to improving outcomes for individuals with disabilities are highly regarded.
